Large corrugated expansion joints made of AES Santoprene 8000 thermoplastic rubber can expand and contract 76 cm (30 in.) horizontally in each direction and 76 cm (30 in.) laterally in each direction. The unique portal design seismic joints developed by C/S Group Inc. conceal the space between buildings and allow space for movement.
C/S Group reviewed a number of materials for this application, including silicone and EPDM, and made a decision based on ability to handle movement and elongation.
In addition, Santoprene has proven ultraviolet protection for the portions with exterior exposure and can be colored to meet aesthetic needs.
