Ondex, a French manufacturer of PVC products for the building and construction industry, has developed a new type of construction panel using a bi- orientation production process that increases the impact resistance by as much as 300% in comparison to standard PVC sheet. The co-extruded sheets are stretched both longitudinally and transversally under highly controlled conditions of temperature and speed. The bi-orientation process enhances molecular interlinking, resulting in increased molecular cohesion of the polymers comprising the sheet.
The process is cost effective, as bi-orientation provides improved mechanical properties without the use of chemical additives. A co-extruded outer layer affords UV, chemical and water resistance, making the Ondex panels suitable for roofs, cladding or translucent coverings in industrial, agricultural and sports buildings.
