The startup in October of the E3 ethylene plant in Joffre, Alberta is one link in the supply chain that could drive down polyethylene prices in 2001. The plant is jointly owned by NOVA Chemicals and Union Carbide Corp., and will supply both companies' nearby polyethylene facilities.
