The former owner of Orillia, Ont.-based Uniplast Films Inc., Bill Swinimer, has resigned from the company he founded to become chairman and CEO of film extruder PCL Plastics Corp. based in Oakville, Ont. Swinimer’s resignation from Uniplast comes a little over a year after he sold the company to Perry Equity Investors Inc., at which point he became less involved with the daily management of the company.

Swinimer will be responsible for the strategic business direction of PCL and implementing a broad-based growth strategy.

“We’re planning a number actions, including de-bottlenecking, purchasing new equipment and strategic acquisitions,” says Swinimer.

Swinimer says the company is looking at buying bag-making operations and is actively talking with several U.S.-based companies, one of which may be acquired by the end of this year. Swinimer says the company is also interested in pursuing acquisitions in Canada.

“We certainly want to grow in Canada as the country is very competitive from a production stand point with the low dollar,” Swinimer says.
