Stephen Sales Group of Markham, Ont., has announced the formation of its new Extrusion Division, to be headed by Chris Amell (picture on page 6). The division will represent Davis-Standard’s Pipe, Profile and Tubing Group in Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan with their comprehensive product line, including single and twin screw extruders. The division will also represent the full complement of Conair auxiliary equipment and Conair/Metaplas’ entire line of extrusion downstream products. Amell brings extensive experience selling equipment in the film, pipe, profile, sheet and compounding industries.

Ampacet Corporation (Tarrytown, NY) has announced the completion of the acquisition of Equistar’s Concentrates and Compounding business. The acquisition includes two manufacturing facilities, located in Heath, OH and Crokett, TX. The two additional facilities will increase Ampacet’s number of plants in North America to eight, including two in Canada.

Engel Canada Inc. is opening a centre for the purpose of developing new applications and processing methods for Trexell Inc.’s Mucell microcellular foam process. The centre will be located at Engel’s Guelph, Ont. headquarters and is an extension of an earlier development agreement involving Engel Vertriebegesellschaft mbH, of Schwertberg, Austria and Trexel.

Rouen Tool & Mold is the latest mold-maker to break into injection molding with the announcement of their injection molding division. The new division, called Rouen Plastics Ltd., features Toshiba presses ranging from 80 to 250 tons. Rouen Plastics is located at 700 Finley Ave., Units 8 through 11, Ajax, Ontario, L1S 3Z2. Willer Engineering Ltd. (North York, Ont.) has been appointed as the new representative for the ABB Force Measurement Products Division in Eastern Canada. The Division manufactures force and tension measurement products for the industrial process market.

CNSMITH Plastics Machinery Sales, (Georgetown, Ont.) has been named as exclusive sales representative for HPM’s entire range of injection molding machinery, as well as remanufactured machines from 400 to 5000 tons. HPM lines represented will include Universal Toggle Clamp, Next Wave, Access, and Modular presses, as well as the HPM Remanufacturing division.

Montreal-based Twinpak Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amcor Ltd., has changed its name to Amcor Twinpak. The name change is part of a corporate identity program designed to incorporate the Amcor name and logo into all the firm’s global operations. Amcor Twinpak’s operating units will be renamed Amcor PET Packaging, Amcor Flexibles, Amcor Rigid Plastics, and Amcor Plastube.

Baron Colour Concentrates (Kitchener, Ont.) has been acquired by Ampacet Canada Co. (also Kitchener-based) in a deal described as “win-win” by Mike Firek, Ampacet Canada general manager. Terms were not disclosed. Baron is currently being operated as a separate corporate entity. Terry Elliot, director of sales and marketing, Ampacet Canada Co., will direct all sales and marketing activities across Canada. Keith Robertson has been promoted to senior account executive, and will cover Ontario, while Quebec and the Maritimes will be the responsibility of account executive Germain Archambault.

In another color industry acquisition, Dominion Colour Corporation (North York, Ont.) has announced that it has completed the purchase of the assets of Pigments Newton Incorporated of Bromont, Que. Pigments Newton was founded in 1995 to manufacture organic azo pigments. Production ceased in July, 1998. Dominion will operate the re-commissioned plant as a wholly-owned subsidiary, Dominion Colour Corporation (Quebec) / Corporation de Couleur Dominion (Quebec).
