Larger, stronger packaging is needed to protect next-generation optical media such as DVDs and CD-ROMs. To give its new line of super jewel boxes the necessary toughness, Viva Magnetics (Canada) Ltd. is using Styron 668 polystyrene from Dow Plastics
The jewel boxes are injection molded in three different sizes for DVD-video, DVD-audio and CD-ROM applications. The mechanical properties of Styron 668 maximize the strength of each part, preventing snapping and breakage, while maintaining clarity.
The good flow and consistent quality of the material also help Viva reduce cycle times and production costs.
Headquartered in Hong Kong, Viva produces more than two billion jewel boxes per year from facilities in Vancouver, Toronto, Hong Kong and China.
