BASF Corporation has added Avantra 594E, super-high-impact polystyrene (SHIPS), to its Avantra line of injection molding PS resins. According to the company, one of the main benefits of the new grade is its superior gloss characteristics. Other performance benefits include superior corner and surface impact strength in finished parts, and flexibility in processing parameters, as the impact strength remains stable over a wide range of conditions. The new resin is targeted for injection and extrusion applications in markets such as consumer electronics, office equipment, building and construction, housewares, office products, cosmetic and personal care packaging and others. Just-in-time shipments of the resin are expedited by virtue of it being produced at the company’s polystyrene manufacturing plant in Joliet, IL.
