The event was attended by Dr. Norman Behn, president of SPE International, who spoke on the importance of the industry/university linkage. The centerpiece of the event was the presentation of the winner of the SPE “Wonders of Plastics” essay contest. The contest is open to all high school students, and the winner, selected by a panel of judges from 28 entries, is Liisa Kivisto, an 18-year-old Grade 12 student at Fenelon Falls Secondary School in Fenelon Falls, Ont. Liisa wins $500 and the First Place award presented by: (l to r) Dr. Norman Behn, president of SPE International, (Liisa Kivisto), Mike Newman, president, SPE Ontario, and Chris Amell, director of public relations for SPE Ontario.
