A company in Germany is the first to make use of Krauss-Maffei’s QuickSwitch system in regular, industrial-scale pipe production. QuickSwitch makes it possible to change pipe dimensions on the fly, without stopping production. The change is fully automatic and is triggered by the operator at the control panel.
The German extruder, Egeplast Werner Strumann GmbH & Co., retrofitted the system onto an existing, conventional PE pipe extrusion line. Key components of the QuickSwitch system are the pipehead, suction bell and calibrating basket.
“QuickSwitch makes us far more flexible when it comes to producing batches of different dimensions,” says Dr. Ansgar Strumann, managing director of Egeplast. “We save on man hours and production waste and we can deliver with very short lead times.”
