Demand for plastic and wood-plastic composite materials in the U.S. is forecast to grow nearly 13% annually through 2006, according to a report issued by Freedonia Group, Inc. This growth, which is based on increasing demand for these materials in construction applications, will culminate in sales approaching $2 billion and use over two billion pounds of plastic resin. Growth will be strongest in applications such as decking, windows, doors and fencing. The more mature plastic lumber market will see slower growth, according to the report. Aiding the growth of plastic composite materials in all areas will be concerns about the use of pressure-treated wood.
