Redesign rejuvenates popular hardware product

Plastic played an important role in the redesign of the Black & Decker Workmate 375, a project in which the objective was to create a more compact, user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing product. The most radical change was the replacement of laminate wood with polypropylene in the design of the jaws. A Canadian team utilized mold-filling analysis software, and designed the jaws with extensive ribbing in order to stand up to heavy loads.
