A custom-blended TPE gives the newly designed Gillette Mach 3 triple-blade razor a good feel in addition to a non-slip grip in the environment in which it used, namely soap and water. The material, supplied by GLS Corporation, is a proprietary TPE developed specifically for the razor; as such, it had to meet some of the most demanding manufacturing and technical specifications in the personal care industry. In addition, the material provides good value and offers excellent moldability in a two- or multi-shot overmolding process with polypropylene.

According to Walter Ripple, marketing manager for GLS, development of the material was a team effort. “We worked closely with Gillette to gain special insight into their needs for a new compound for the Mach 3. We feel we met their expectations with a compound that was proven in multi-shot applications, as well as met the required aesthetics and performance properties.”
