Dow Plastics today announced an increased commitment to serving customers’ color needs with the opening of a new Color Center at its Midland, MI, headquarters. The Midland Color Center is a source for individual access to Dow’s color experts, as well as state-of-the-art color-matching equipment, colorant and special effects technology, and design and engineering resources. Customers may also take advantage of the exclusive, Dow-developed Appearance Engineering technology. According to Scott Collick, global color manager for Dow Engineering Plastics, the new digital tool enables surface textures, colors and material options to be accurately manipulated on a computer monitor. The technology provides designers, molders and manufacturers with an instant, realistic image of their part or product so they can quickly react to and select appearance options. It also analyzes the effects of processing conditions on appearance, so designers can assess potential appearance problems and proactively correct them.
