As part of the quest for the modern day manufacturers’ Holy Grail of brand recognition coupled with environmental responsibility, designers at the Toyota Motor Corporation wanted a decal sporting the name of the company’s Avensis automobile line to look good in the car’s doorstep through all of the mud and other residue ground into it by vehicle occupants entering and exiting — and also be recyclable when a vehicle reached the literal end of the road.

They turned to Flourex bright film by Soliant LLC, a clear polyurethane (PU) film designed as a decorating alternative to traditional paint or chrome-plated systems for the automotive industry.

Compatible with injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming and compression molding, the Flourex film, which has a brushed chrome appearance for this application, covers the polypropylene (PP) molded “Avensis” decal recessed into the doorstep of each vehicle.

“Flourex bright film makes recycling of the 100 per cent PP part easy, and also enables more value for OEMs and Tier One suppliers via streamlined processing and assembly,” said Richard Taylor, manager of Ecomold Ltd., a Scunthorpe, U.K.-based molder that manufactures the part for Toyota.
