Preview: Expoplast arrives

It’s not too late to experience Expoplast in person. The show takes place in Montreal, Oct. 23 and 24 at Place Bonaventure, Montreal. In addition to the 300+ companies represented on the show floor, there are many events before and during Expoplast that are worth a visit.

Tuesday, Oct. 22, the Industrial Materials Institute, in Boucherville, QC, hosts a symposium entitled Productivity — R&D — Innovation. Olaf Zoellner, manager of the Innovative Technologies Group of Bayer, will be a guest speaker. Contact Pierre Fillion, CPIA Quebec, for more details, 514-499-0500.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, prior to the show, share breakfast with industry leaders at CPIA Quebec’s annual conference. The morning event begins at 7:15 a.m. at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel, adjacent to Place Bonaventure, where Expoplast begins at 10:00 a.m. For more details about the annual conference, contact CPIA Quebec at 514-499-0500.

A technical program presented by SPE Quebec takes place on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Two concurrent sessions will be held at Place Bonaventure.

In the Hopper to Customer session, executives from major machinery manufacturers will discuss technology developments and global trends in injection molding, extrusion and auxiliary equipment. Speakers hail from Husky Injection Molding Systems, Milacron, Davis-Standard and Conair.

In the Pellets to Products session, the emphasis is on raw materials for plastic parts and mold materials. Paul D. Clark, vice-president, R&D, of NOVA Chemicals will discuss metallocene catalysts for polyolefins, and Victor Mimeault, vice-president, R&D, Ampacet, will speak about colorants and additives. In addition, toxicity and biocompatibility are on the agenda. For moldmakers, George Iatan of DBM Reflex will review current moldmaking materials.
