When the United Internet Team Germany entered the 2007 America’s Cup challenge, they did so on board a newly designed yacht that featured APTIV film, from Victrex USA, protecting those sections falling under particularly intense stress.
The team’s GER 89 racing yacht had a layer of the APTIV film, made with VICTREX PEEK polymer, applied to the hull and parts under the deck to protect them from friction, pressures and the high temperatures — up to 300C — that can be created due to frictional forces encountered during high-speed sailing.
Due to its thermoplastic nature, APTIV film is easy to process and can be thermoformed, laminated without the use of adhesives, or heat-sealed.
“VICTREX PEEK polymer provides excellent hydrolysis and chemical resistance and does not change its properties, even when in constant contact with water,” Victrex said.
