McMaster University professor John Vlachopoulos was given a 2001 Education Award and has been elected as a Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers. He received the Award for “outstanding achievements in plastics education”. In a separate ceremony Vlachopoulos was elected Fellow of SPE. There are currently about 155 Fellows among the more than 30,000 members of SPE. Both honors were presented at last year’s Antec meeting held in Dallas, TX.

Vlachopoulos is a professor of chemical engineering and the director of the Centre of Advanced Polymer Processing and Design at McMaster. He has conducted and supervised research in plastics extrusion, die and equipment design, blown film production, rotational molding, injection molding, thermoforming and polymer rheology. He and his colleagues have created a dozen commercially available software packages that have been licensed to more than 400 corporations in 27 countries.
