The Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carlton is testing new recycling containers made entirely from recycled plastics. The containers are manufactured by Montreal-based Sol Plastics.
The recycled plastics used to mold the containers originated entirely from the region’s own recycling program. According to Max Maurice, Sol Plastics’ general manager: “The pilot project is the first time a municipality has used a product composed 100 per cent from its own post-consumer and post-industrial plastics. The fact that the raw material comes from the same region is a credit to the municipality and is an encouraging sign of sustainable development in our economy”. The performance of the containers will be monitored over an extended period of time.
