Canadian materials handling equipment supplier Nucon Systems Inc. (Richmond Hill, Ont.) has been purchased by Austrian-based Wittmann Robot Systems GmbH. The deal, for undisclosed terms, was completed in August. In the U.S., Nucon’s plastics auxiliary equipment will still be sold through its line of representatives. Additionally, Nucon equipment will eventually be sold in the U.S. through distributors of Wittmann’s line of robots. At press time, Nucon and Shadow Automation, the current distributor of Wittmann robots in Canada, were discussing business arrangements for selling Wittmann’s product line in Canada. Len Miller, former owner of Nucon, will remain the president of the company, which he founded 14 years ago.

Miller says he agreed to the deal, which the two companies had been discussing since April, because of the opportunities it affords Nucon to expand and diversify.

“Certainly, our growth has been tremendous, and most of that growth in sales has been to the U.S”, says Miller. “We wanted to take it to the next level. This (deal) will help us to increase our geographical penetration and sell equipment in places where we haven’t sold a lot of equipment before.”

Nucon will be moving into a new 20,000 sq. ft. facility in Richmond Hill this fall.
