Abu Dhabi’s state oil company International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) has announced plans to buy Nova Chemicals, a Canadian polyethylene supplier and cracker operator, for $2.3 billion. The purchase is subject to regulatory approvals. Under the agreement, Nova will continue to operate as a stand-alone company to invest substantially in its operations in Alberta and Ontario.

Controls and instrumentation supplier Carlo Gavazzi, of Mississauga, Ont. has named Winnipeg-based Hi-Tech Sales Ltd. as its manufacturer’s representative responsible for Saskatchewan, Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.

Materials supplier Lanxess Corporation has sold its Ficel blowing agent product line in Canada and the U. S. to Hughes Polymer Additives Corporation. Hughes Polymer is located in Acworth, Ga., with manufacturing sites in various locations throughout the U. S.
