Four-station rotating stack mold

DeMag Ergotech introduced at the K Show a four-station rotating stack mold it will market with moldmaker Gram Technology. These molds permit high-speed production of multicomponent parts on injection machines much smaller than those required for conventional rotating molds. The technology works by transferring preforms on a rotating central plate built into the mold. At the K Show, Demag Ergotech produced a medical tubing connector made of polypropylene and a thermoplastic elastomer. The first station molded the polypropylene preform; while the second station molded TPE. After one more turn, the part received another shot of PP. A single horizontal injection unit injected the PP, and a vertical injector supplied the TPE.

Insert makes mold dating easier

A patented mold dating insert makes it easier to date plastic parts for batch identification and quality control. D-M-E’s indexable insert allows molders to make fast changes to day month, year or time of shift without completely removing the insert from the mold, thus maximizing machine up-time and production.

The metric-dimensioned insert assemblies consist of an outer ring, which is press-fitted into the mold, and a front-removable inner insert with slotted indicator arrow. The inner insert mounts inside the outer ring and requires a screwdriver to quickly modify date information.

Mold dating inserts are available in six diameters, from 6 to 20mm and are made from hardened stainless steel.

High accuracy drilling

TechniDrill Systems Inc. is offering gun drill machines that feature extremely accurate concentricity. One recent customer has reported drilling accuracy of 0.005 in. runout in 40 in. of depth. Designed to counter-rotate the tool and the workpiece, the Model 100 produces the most concentric holes possible and is laser aligned. The system offers a drilling range from 0.125 in. to 1.0 in. and an effective drilling depth of 48 in. with four whip guides installed.

The Model 100 is equipped with a high pressure coolant and filtration system, as well as an efficient chip conveyor. It also includes a work-rotating tailstock that is adjustable for workpiece length, and for loading and unloading the workpiece.
