More flame retardant nylons, PP

DSM has added new flame retardant materials to the Akulon nylon product line and Fiberfil polypropylene line.

In nylon 6, K225-KS is an unreinforced product, free of halogens and phosphorus. It has very low specific gravity of 1.16 and excellent flow properties. K224-HGS6 is a 30 percent glass reinforced nylon 6 which offers improvements in blooming, processability and specific gravity compared with standard glass reinforced nylons. In some cases, it can replace nylon 6/6 due to improved processability.

The new family of flame retardant unreinforced polypropylenes all possess specific gravity less than 1.0, and have improved bloom and plate-out resistance.
