Choosing a new material hose coupling for industrial sandblasting equipment proved a tricky job for Pro Mold. The couplings were part of Clemco Industries’ Ultralight system, known by their yellow color, and there were some initial problems with the color consistency.
The let-down ratios of the concentrates used to color the parts was approximately 100:2, but Pro Mold had to more than double that ratio to get the right color consistency. Also, smaller couplings spent longer residence times in the barrel, causing them to burn. Pro Mold needed a custom compounded nylon that had consistent color and heat stability, for every coupling size, regardless of residence time.
RTP Company was able to provide a pre-colored specialty compound nylon, reinforced with glass fiber. The compound eliminated the problems with color stabilization and also guaranteed consistency in different sizes of couplings and those made in different lots.
