ACanadian injection molder has developed a simple device that helps support the weight of a mold and maintain alignment. The ‘Micro Alignment’ is a patented mold alignment monitoring system suitable for single-face molds and stack molds.

The unit travels on the lower tie bars to help support the weight of the mold. Inventor Joe Kodric says it will permit processors to maximize their injection molding machine capacity by permitting the use of larger, heavier molds.

The support system is adjustable and resetable in three directions automatically and a fourth direction manually for precise positioning of the mold. It is available for all sizes of injection molding machines.

Kodric says the unit provides better core centering and eliminates platen-tilting force caused by the weight of the mold. One of the main advantages of the unit is the elimination of maintenance caused by wear on mold taper locks. According to Kodric, using ‘Micro Alignment’ will help molds last longer, especially those with shut off faces, and save energy during mold opening and closing.

Kodric designed and developed Micro Alignment using the in-house machining and mold making facilities of his molding company, Inventive Plastic Products Ltd. (Toronto).
