Frank Meisels, a founder of FGL Precision Works Ltd., has decided to retire from moldmaking. Since forming the company in 1965, Meisels built FGL to its current position as a world leader in the manufacturing of large structural foam, injection and compression molds. Meisels established a broad customer base with contracts around the globe.

Meisels has been committed to the plastics and moldmaking industries in Canada, and spent countless hours volunteering his time and expertise to organizations such as the CPIA (Canadian Plastics Industry Association), SPI (Society of Plastics Industries) and George Brown College Technical Advisory committees.

He has served as chairman of CPIA’s Mould Makers Council, judged many parts competitions for the SPI Structural Division conferences, received numerous vendor performance awards and participated in strategic business alliance projects. The walls of FGL are lined with various letters of appreciation for service beyond the call of duty.

In his 35 years at the helm of FGL, Meisels has taken the company through many technological changes, including the introduction of CNC machining, CAD/CAM, digitizing and ISO 9001 certification.

In a press release, Meisels said, “I’ve hoped that one day I would be able to enjoy the fruits of my labour and I think that time has finally come. There’s no question in my mind that the existing management structure that I leave at FGL is more than capable of carrying forward with the principles and integrity that I’ve based the business on.”

As part of his succession plan, Meisels sold FGL in mid 1998, but continued at the helm.
