Atofina has developed a new thermoplastic elastomer called Sunfrost for the all-around sealing of fixed glass windows (by overmolding the glass). Sunfrost can be injection molded, and provides a matte finish, similar to rubber.

The material retains its matte finish over time, and offers outstanding aging and weather resistant properties. It is used to seal the rear quarter lights of the Citroen C5 vehicle.

Materials certified for potable water use

Certain TPEs from GLS Corp. and Teknor Apex have recently been certified to Standard 61 by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). This means the materials can be used in potable water applications, such as faucets, liquid soap dispensers, dishwasher hoses, coffee makers, water coolers, beverage dispensers and ice makers.

Four grades of GLS’s Dynaflex 7900 Series and 13 grades of Teknor Apex’s Uniprene 7010 Series thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) compounds met NSF approval.

The Dynaflex 7900 Series resins are general purpose, high performance compounds designed to be easily molded with reduced cycle times.

According to Teknor Apex, the Uniprene materials provide greater elasticity under sub-freezing conditions than other widely-available TPEs, and also maintain higher strength after prolonged used at elevated temperatures.
