A new service offered by Ferromatik Milacron North America and Apex Plastic Technologies will allow processors to upgrade old Bucher thermoset machines at about half the cost of a new machine. Each machine is disassembled to the frame. Mechanical component re-manufacturing includes grinding plates, polishing rods, rebuilding clamp cylinders, and rebuilding stuffer and proportional injection unit. Each machine is plumbed with a new hydraulic system with a variable volume pump, and fitted with a closed-loop Milacron control unit.

The first remanufactured Bucher was delivered to an automotive lens maker last year as part of a three-machine order. The 500-tonne machine received a new Apex screw and barrel specially machined with water-cooling grooves. The barrel features Apex’s two-piece aluminum cooling jacket that can be easily removed for routine cleaning.
