The spring of 1984 marked the end of an era at Leco Inc. Canadian Plastics reported in April 1984 that Leco’s founder Bill Lynes was retiring, and that a controlling interest in the polyethylene film extrusion company had been purchased by Gentech Inc. Lynes founded Leco 28 years earlier, and was honored for his work in the industry with SPI Canada’s Man of the Year award in 1983.

Gentech was a holding company headed by Martin Walsh, a former president of Brampton Engineering. After leaving Brampton Engineering, Walsh formed Colortech Inc., a supplier of color and additive concentrates.
