A new polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) compound from RTP offers performance and processing similar to PBT and PET while providing significant cost advantages in many applications.

The material has tensile strength of 18,000 psi and flexural strength of 25,000 psi.

The compound maintains basic polyester benefits of dimensional stability, electrical insulation and chemical resistance. Key applications include electronic connectors, switches, plugs, housings and snap-fit parts in computers and automobiles.

Recycled-content resins span range of needs

Dow Automotive has entered an alliance with MRC Polymers to provide a new family of resins to meet increased customer demand for recycled materials in the automotive market. The recycled-content resins will be sold to the automotive market by Dow Automotive under the Retain trademark.

The Retain family will encompass nearly all engineering thermoplastic resins, and Dow anticipates that nearly all applications will be for injection molded parts. Possible interior applications include defroster grilles, consoles, HVAC ducts and door trim.

Outside the vehicle, Retain is suitable for luggage racks, body side moldings, light housings and grilles. Under-hood applications include engine covers and reservoirs.
