Kortec Inc. recently sold its first 144-cavity co-injection system to a large carbonated soft-drink supplier. The Beverly, MA-based company had announced plans to develop a 144-cavity system at the 2003 NPE.

The 144-cavity system, called the Ultra 144, is capable of producing standard, small-size multi-layer CSD preforms with 28 mm neck diameters at rates of over 35,000 preforms/hr.

Kortec also announced it has received an order to build the first 128-cavity co-injection system for production of wide-mouth multi-layer PET containers. The new system, the Ultra 128, is based on the latest high-output platforms from Husky Injection Molding Systems, such as the company’s Index machine. Prior to this, the largest co-injection system in production for making wide-mouth containers with neck diameters from 33 mm to 43 mm was a 32-cavity system. Bottles of this size are typically used as containers for juices and health drinks.
