IML film shrinks less

To satisfy increasingly stringent requirements for in-mold labelling, Treophan has presented at Labelexpo Europe a new cast polypropylene film for this application. The unique characteristic of these non-oriented, multilayer PP films is reduced shrinkage after molding, resulting in less distortion and orange peel effect.

The film is available in transparent or white.

Thixomolding systems suit larger applications

Thixomolding systems were on display last month at Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. The company recently had three systems producing a wide range of parts at an open house event.

Husky’s first Hylectric Thixosystem model is a 500-ton machine with a 70 mm screw. The next model, due out in early 2004, will be a 1,000-ton version.

Some of the features of Husky’s Hylectric Thixosystems are particularly suited to larger machines. The injection unit is capable of speeds up to 6 m/s, providing the short fill times needed to mold magnesium. The injection unit runs on the Hylectric machine platofrm, which uses Reflex platens to improve tonnage utilization and reduce mold wear. The Hylectric units also have an energy-efficient, servo-drive extruder and shorter dry-cycle times.

“The Thixosystems share most of the features of our standard injection molding machines for plastic, and can be easily integrated into most injection molding facilities,” says Pierre Pinet, Husky’s product manager for Thixosystems.

Visitors to the open house saw Thixosystems producing snowboard boot bindings, laptop computer housings and tray bases for a gas chromatograph.
