Husky Injection Molding Systems has introduced a line of hot sprues for prototype molding and single cavity applications to produce parts that are truly representative of production parts.

The hot sprues use a single-drop nozzle with an identical design to standard nozzles used for multi-cavity molds, secured to the mold base by an adapter that provides support during injection.

Both Husky 250 Series (up to 10 g/s) and 500 Series (20-30 g/s) nozzles are available in various lengths to fit standard and custom mold base sizes.

Easy-to-operate mold repair system

The Mold Doctor electro-spark surface deposition and hardening machine from KTech Industry Inc. is suitable for making fast, convenient minor repairs of molds, dies, inserts and other parts.

Minimal heat accumulation occurs so distortion, pits, shrinkage and internal stress is minimized. The system provides excellent bonding by the formation of a diffusion layer.

AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT: COMPACT, RELIABLE CHILLERS

ACS Group has expanded its AEC PS Series air- and water-cooled chiller line to include 2 and 3.5 hp models. The chillers have off-the-shelf microprocessor control with PID auto tuning, high efficiency scroll compressors and hot-gas bypass capacity.

TESTING: FILM THICKNESS GAUGE CALIBRATES AUTOMATICALLY

The AutoCal film thickness gauge from Oakland Instrument uses a contact sensor to calibrate the non-contact sensor automatically.

According to sales manager Neil Sticha, a weakness with previous designs is that a capacitive sensor is a relative measurement device which needs a homogenous (constant dielectric) material.

“We actually introduced this feature to solve a customer problem — nylon film is hygroscopic and moisture absorption in the film samples will change the dielectric and, therefore, stored calibrations are not effective with changing moisture levels. The contact sensor in the CX-1020 AutoCal off-line thickness gauge can be set up to calibrate the capacitance sensor, automatically, or the contact sensor can run as an independent profile sensor.”
