Expect rapid devlopment of a new thermoplastic technology from GE Plastics that provides extremely high-gloss with the added benefits of long-term weatherability and improved surface hardness compared with other weatherable polymer systems.
GE Plastics says the new engineering resin, called W4, has the potential to eliminate paint on the exterior of automobiles. The initial product focus for this material will be automotive body exteriors, truck tonneau covers, RV panels, watercraft and agricultural equipment.
The material provides extremely high gloss with depth of image; long-term retention of gloss and color; excellent resistance to gasoline and other chemicals; and good scratch resistance.
