Sephora, a global beauty and healthcare products firm, wanted its Bain range of bodycare products to have a unique packaging design that would emit an aura of prestige.

As a result, it chose the specialty copolyester from Eastman Chemical Co. dubbed Glass Polymer, to produce the jar+lid moldings for the packaging solution. The lid and the jar are blow-molded and injection-molded respectively.

“We had first considered using PET (polyethylene terephthalate) but the resulting esthetics quality did not meet our requirements due to PET crystallizing too fast and producing a whitish mottling in the gate area,” said Stphanie Arraitz, project manager at Sephora. “Thanks to its low crystallization rate, the Glass Polymer could eliminate this defect while at the same time enabling us to produce the jar+lid pair of moldings with a perfect match in terms of colour and high gloss.”
