Akron Milacron is adding muscle to its single-screw extrusion line with a new series of grooved-feed machines that can churn out 30 to 100% more melt in the same footprint as a smooth-bore extruder, depending on the resin and application.
Long-favored in Europe for their higher process stability and output, grooved-feed extruders can provide a highly cost-effective increase in, output according to Akron Milacron business unit manager Jim Frankland. “Grooved-feed extruders improve melting and pumping performance significantly, producing higher throughput rates at lower melt temperatures, with the ability to overcome higher discharge pressures.”
