A new patent-pending valve, the Multiflow valve, offers improved productivity and cost savings to extruders manufacturing either three- or five-layer tubing products. In the three-layer configuration, the valve is designed for use with all ABA crossheads or inline dies. With the valve in place, plastic or rubber is fed from the “A” extruder and divided inside the manifold in order to form both the inner and outer layers of the final product. The valve also allows operators to change layer-wall thickness without shutting down the extruder. The valve also helps eliminate dead areas in the manifold that would lead to degradation of the material and contamination of the tubing.
