Responding to the changing consumer attitude toward office products, ACCO Brands Inc. has chosen a colorable, soft-touch Santoprene thermoplastic elastomer to differentiate the design of its Swingline Contura stapler product line. Santoprene 8000, grade 8201-65, supplied by Advanced Elastomer Systems, L.P., is injection overmolded onto a glass-filled nylon for both the operating handle and the base of the desktop staplers. The staplers are available in blue, green and purple, and each possesses a velvety, tactile quality that enables the user to grip the stapler with comfort. The product is the first developed by a new team of design engineers at ACCO whose mission is to deliver appealing, value-added characteristics to office products.

Contura staplers stand out on the shelves among the black, industrial-looking staplers whose design mainly has remained the same for nearly 30 years.

Says Tim Parsey, vice president, product design and development, ACCO: “By incorporating new thinking and colorable Santoprene 8000 rubber in our Contura staplers, consumers are welcoming the infusion of creative engineering into products they once glazed over without much thought.”
