Northern Telecom’s new wireless Companion workplace telephone features a custom-designed elastomeric armor accessory called the Rugged Protector. Conceived by Ottawa-based Design Workshop and molded by ITW Plastiglide (Toronto), the part is molded from Advanced Elastomer Systems’ Santoprene thermoplastic elastomer. ITW Plastiglide overmolds a one-piece impact-modified nylon skeleton with the 75 Shore A TPE, producing a part which protected the telephone through 20 drop tests of two meters from all sides.
