One of the world’s largest, most technically-advanced cast film lines has been purchased by a company in Spain, according to a recent news release. The line, manufactured by Davis-Standard, is a four-metre cast film line for processing industrial pallet stretch wrap film. The five-layer system is capable of processing speeds ranging from 450 to 600 m/min with outputs between 2,500 to 2,800 kg/hr. At press time, the line was running 17-micron LLDPE stretch film at 500 m/min at Davis-Standard’s test facility in Erkrath, Germany.

According to Davis-Standard, the primary benefits of this new system are faster cycle times as a result of a design that eliminates off-line rewinding for hand wrap; and a single roll handling system that simplifies winding logistics by providing automated core loading as well as automatic unloading of all finished rolls to the same side of the winder.

The extruder configuration features one 4.5 in., 30:1 extruder for processing the cling layer, two 6 in., 30:1 extruders for processing the bulk layers, and one 4.5 in., 30:1 extruder for processing the slip layer. A fifth extruder with a 2.5 in. diameter provides side encapsulation.

Another unique feature of the system is the ER-WE-PA five-layer, four-extruder lamellar feedblock equipped to process metallocene blends, and capable of being retrofitted with two additional extruders. The line also features a 180 in. automatic die with an encapsulated flow channel and a fully integrated scrap reclaim system for in-line recycling.
