Duncan Cross, Atlantic region executive director of the Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA), and director of its Composites Council, has received the Atlantic Canada Plastics and Composites Leader of the Year Award.

Cross, who was presented with the award in Halifax, N.S., was selected for his eight years of service to the Atlantic and Canadian industry.

The event was bittersweet, however, due to the announcement that the Atlantic office of CPIA will close after the end of this year as a result of restructuring. Henceforth, the composites file will be handled from CPIA’s headquarters in Mississauga, Ont. Duncan Cross will continue to serve the association and its Atlantic region under a contractual arrangement.

The CPIA also announced that Pierre Fillion has resigned as head of the organization’s Quebec office, which is headquartered in Boucherville. According to CPIA president and CEO Serge Lavoie, former president Pierre Dubois will serve as the CPIA Quebec’s interim director general. Lavoie said that a new leader for the Quebec division would be selected in the new year.
