Mechanic Falls, Maine-based ITW Company has released the AEGIS shaft grounding coupling which protects bearings from electrical damage produced by shaft current. The AEGIS is made using eight key housing and sealing parts molded from glass-reinforced, flame-retardant grades of DuPont Zytel HTN high-performance polyphthalamide (PPA) and Zytel nylon 6/6 resin.

The two-piece end cap located inside the assembled stator was molded with Zytel HTNFR 52630, a PPA resin. Zytel nylon 6/6 is used for the slinger and five internal stator components. The resin met the need for a combination of high stiffness, strength and toughness, as well as dimensional stability. The parts also meets UL94 V-O performance, resistance to breakdown by shaft current up to 10 amperes, resistance to maximum operating temperatures up to 121C and molding productivity.
