France’s Shiseido Group is setting new trends in the cosmetic fragrance industry with a bottle made of Eastman Chemical’s newly developed Eastar AN004 copolyester. “The material was selected because it is one of the few products that can provide good clarity and still offer the chemical and scratch resistance required of a perfume bottle,” said Vincent Gugumus, an Eastman sales manager.
The housing for the new perfume, Le Feu d’Issey, is a round, red ball-shaped container made from two injection molded bowls. The molder, MT Packaging, uses ultrasonic welding to assemble the bowls around a glass perfume bottle that fits inside.
“The entire concept is a spherical perfume bottle that provides unique optical effects when the container is moved,” said Gugumus. “And with 8-mm-thick walls, the plastic bottle is solid and built to last.”
