Connectors resist harsh conditions

Leviton Manufacturing Co. Inc.’s new Wetguard line provides customers with easy-to-use and safe consumer electrical connections. The ergonomic watertight locking plug and connector assemblies are for use in indoor and outdoor electrical applications. The Wetguard series uses a thermoplastic elastomer from Advanced Elastomer Systems, and is designed specifically for damp, wet and dusty locations, such as hospitals and construction sites. The enclosures consist of two insert injection molded parts for leak-proof assembly, reduced cost and improved product performance. The Santoprene thermoplastic rubber provides an easy-to-grip surface, even when wet. It is also nylon-bondable, and provides an excellent seal as well as resistance to crushing, impact and abrasion. The wiring modules and enclosures are a tongue-and-groove design, preventing dirt from entering the crevice. The Wetguard line also features a unique locking indicator, giving visual confirmation that the seal has been obtained.
