GE Advanced Materials is offering a range of materials technologies to enable processors to customize cosmetic packaging. Custom compounds can be created using GE’s Xylex resin and Visualfx resin technologies. The combination offers the best qualities of traditional polyesters and polycarbonates, such as chemical resistance, UV resistance, good transparency, high impact strength and high temperature resistance. The resin blend also provides processors with unprecedented flow and design freedom, together with an extensive palette of visual effects.
For a tactile effect, Thermocomp HSG compound from GE’s LNP division, provides designers with a heavier feel that suggests high quality. Customers are able to work with materials’ specialists at the GE Advanced Materials’ innovation center to tailor a specialty compound with a range of specific gravity. Thermocomp HSG compounds are injection moldable, colorable and platable. The compound can be made with a variety of resins including ABS, PBT, PP, PA and TPU.
“Using this unique packaging solution, cosmetic designers can create eye-catching and stylish designs that stand up to cosmetic solvents,” said Rob de Jong, GE industry manager for performance packaging.
