Switching from brass and plated iron to thermoplastic parts allowed the Coleman Company Inc. to trim the weight of its FI Power Stove by 10%, as well as improve the stove’s performance.

Victrex PEEK’s thermoplastic heat-resistant swivel ring has been built into the fitting base of the stove’s pan support, located directly under the burner. Reaching temperatures of up to 1600C, the F1 Stove is literally Coleman’s hottest heating range. The swivel ring will have to endure temperatures potentially surpassing 200C, resulting from heat transfer from the burner. Victrex said its thermoplastic swivel ring can withstand a maximum temperature of 320C.

Additionally, the ring’s lubricity was ideal for Coleman because the F1 Stove uses a rotating/retractable pan support, so the ring has to be able to slide.

Coleman also saw reductions in manufacturing costs, Victrex said, because it’s cheaper to make the swivel ring’s complex shape through injection molding than by machining a metal part.
