Winder makes wider cast film lines more productive

Davis-Standard recently upgraded its Model 2300 winder to include a new chucking mechanism that accommodates handling of 120-in. finished roll widths at production speeds up to 1500 ft./min.

The main advantage of the chucking mechanism is that it increases line speed by reducing shaft deflection and shaft whipping, which previously limited line speeds to 1,000 ft./min. at this winder width. The winder is an economical, high-speed alternative to using two side-by-side winders for achieving the same result.

The Model 2300 facilitates maximum flexibility using in-line slitting for accommodating six 20-in. rolls, four 30-in. rolls, three 40-in. rolls and other width combinations. This is accomplished without the need for a center shaft support found on competitive winders. Without a center support, processors have more flexibility to produce several widths simultaneously without incurring waste from a center support.

Co-extrusion line casts wide net

Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. reports selling three of its flagship CXL-7210 cast film coextrusion lines over the last year. The CXL-7210 is designed to produce 83 in. wide barrier films from 35 to 250 microns using PP, PA, EVOH and PVDC. The line includes nine MacroPlast extruders that feed a Cloren feedblock and automatic die. Seven extruders feed each of the seven layers and two are used for encapsulating the edges.

The CXL-7210 line comes with a newly designed casting unit featuring a wide range of options. The unit is designed and predrilled for an additional third chill roller and a pressure rubber roller for embossing. An air knife and electrostatic pinning come as standard features. An automatic Automax T-2100 bi-directional, center-turret winder features a linear lay-on roll assembly. The film can be cut in both directions with Macro’s special flying knife design.
