A three year research program on nanocomposites is planned by the Edison Polymer Innovation Corp. (Akron, OH). EPIC will use the results of a market research study by Principia Partners to help direct and prioritize its research efforts. An EPIC research consortium has planned a three-year program, valued at U.S. $3 million to $6 million, that involves more than 20 research projects at five universities. A working understanding of nanocomposite chemistry, rheology and processing will then support applied research in four application areas: thermoplastics, coatings, elastomers and advanced composites.

Inline Fiberglass Ltd. has expanded its product line and market penetration with the acquisition of Owens Corning’s patented proprietary fibreglass pultrusion technology and its fibreglass window manufacturing assets located in Hazelton, PA. “The acquisition of these assets reinforces Inline’s lead in fibreglass pultrusion technology,” said Rino Sabatino, Inline president and CEO. The company also began a joint venture in China last year (see Canadian Plastics, Nov. 1999).
