A custom blend of polyurethane (PU) from BayerMaterialScience was the key ingredient allowing Clifton, N.J.-based Safas Corp., to build seamless countertops of any shape and size.
Safas’ new SafaStone countertops featuring the PU-blend are more aesthetically pleasing, stronger, stiffer and more impact-resistant than comparable designs.
Forming these one-piece countertops involves laying the design out onto a flat surface with the angles, bend and sink mold in place. The next step is applying Granicot, a Safas-patented spray-on, solid-surface material. After adding a 0.25-inch layer of Bayer MaterialScience’s PU blend over the Granicot, the countertop is removed from the mold, and buffed to desired glossiness.
As a bonus, the PU blend cures quickly, resulting in faster cycle times while producing no volatile organic compounds during processing.
