SMALLER, SIMPLER DESICCANT DRYER

The EZ-Dry system was engineered and developed to help simplify the resin drying process, through faster machine start-ups, easier operator controls, and a design that allows for quick maintenance.

EZ-Dry, from Bry-Air Systems, is a desiccant rotor-based drying system. The rotor technology allows a greater velocity of air to pass through a smaller desiccant media, resulting in a smaller and lighter dryer package.

The dryer can also be equipped with a Smart-Dry microprocessor-based diagnostic controller. The controller has a 7-day timer and monitors some process parameters.

PARTS HANDLING SUCTION CUPS RESIST WEAR

PIAB’s Duraflex Series of suction cups for robots are made of a strong, elastic material with outstanding wear resistance to extend change-over intervals. These dual-durometer cups provide both the strength and flexibility needed to seal on uneven surfaces. The dual-durometer cups also reduce micro-leakage, allowing you to use smaller vacuum pumps or run the pump at lower feed pressure.

SLIDE GATES ELIMINATE CROSS CONTAMINATION

Canada Colors & Chemicals (CCC) of Colborne, ON, needed to convey plastic material from four separate sources to one machine without cross contamination. Pneumatic conveying systems supplier Lorenz & Son met the need with a combination Slide Gate manifold system to eliminate the chance of contamination and to keep the lines separate, allowing individual control of each line.

Lorenz used four separate Slide Gates, individually controlled by a single acting spring return solenoid. The position-indicating switches are connected to simple programmable relay control allowing only one valve to be opened at a time preventing any chance of contamination.

Lorenz manufactured a custom aluminum manifold on the back side of the valve connected with a compression coupling directing the four outlets into one line.

REUSE FILM AND SHEET WASTE WITHOUT DENSIFYING OR PELLETIZING

Plastic film and sheet processors can now reclaim and reuse edge trim and roll scrap without densifying or pelletizing the waste material, at reclaim rates up to 1200 lb./hr. per screw, according to PAC Precision AirConvey. The company’s Granulate Feed System uses dual hopper chambers in a single unit to keep fluff and virgin resins separate. Virgin resin is feed gravimetrically while fluff is fed by auger to ensure the desired ratio of fluff to resin.

To accommodate changes in extruder throughput, the PAC system includes a variable speed motor-driven auger which automatically adjusts the feed rate.
