When a private art collector needed a striking, yet transparent display for glass artwork, Petaluma, Calif.-based Architectural Plastics found the solution in CYRO Industries’ Exotic Edge ACRYLITE acrylic sheet.

Exotic Edge ACRYLITE appears colourless, but its prism-like qualities make it visible when viewed from its edge. This satisfied two of the art collector’s criteria: that the shelving did not get lost within the home decor and that it did not draw attention away from the art.

The collector also wanted the display case to have a clear border that appeared to divide the two coloured borders. Architectural Plastics accomplished this look by inserting a four-sided cube of Exotic Edge ACRYLITE sheet within a larger cube of the same material. The front and back panels where then glued together to encase the inner cube.

“You could use silicone glass, but it wouldn’t look as good,” explained Pierre Miremont, owner of Architectural Plastics. “It would be obvious that the two pieces were glued together.”
